PRESIDENTS REPORT
Dear WDMOC members, family and friends,
At our last meeting we had as our guest speaker Mr. Chris Philpott. Chris is the Admin Manager/Ministry Assistant at the Warrnambool Salvation Army. Chris spoke to us on the Salvation Army Warrnambool and their relocation from Lava Street to Mortlake Road, and what will be built on the old indoor tennis stadium site. The site will house their new Op Shop, Administration Building, Church and 23 Emergency Accommodation Units.
Since our last meeting things have taken off at a rapid pace with many different and interesting things happening.
To mention just a few items;
Little Oakley Robert Webster born on the 13th October, congratulations to the new grandparents Tina and Skip. There we were thinking this little man might slow Skip down, how wrong we were.
During a ride in October, one of our long serving members Neil Primmer, had an unfortunate accident and fell off his bike. Neil was helped by fellow riders, Bruce Brown and Ken Rowe to get back on his bike and continued on to the next township. Neil declined the offer to get an ambulance and was later picked up by partner Gwenda. Gwenda proceeded to the hospital to have Neil’s injuries checked out. After a few x-rays, Neil was diagnosed with a broken tibia and 5 broken ribs. We wish Neil on a speedy recovery.
Some of you may have heard that our fearless Triton driver, Shane, had recent surgery on his ‘good’ foot. Shane suffers severely with arthritis in all bones in his body. Shane has had to have surgery to remove bone calcification on his big toe and realign his little toe. I did ask Shane if they used a welder or surgeon to fix his foot and apparently, they used a surgeon. Speedy recovery Shane.
2022 RALLY
Can you believe it, it’s been and gone, and what a huge success (I believe) it was.
The reason for this success is the hard work many of you put in, from the lead riders, corner marshals, back up vehicle, scrutineers, partners with spare gear for riders, photographers and others that assisted. I would like to personally thank the rally committee; Kevin Langley, Neville Smith, Bruce Brown, Ken Rowe, David Morse and of course Elaine.
The committee worked hard, but behind the scenes Elaine was tireless prior to and during the running of the rally. Elaine was instrumental in organising some of the raffle prizes, organized the caterers, organized the raffles, arranged the night at RSL, and tidied up any loose ends. Thanks Elaine.
The Civic Green was our starting point for the rally. We had a huge array of bikes on display with many people from the public taking photos of and chatting with the owners of these magnificent pieces of machinery. The marshals led by Bruce left approximately 15 min before the main group of riders. There was a small group of ‘older’ bikes that have for many years followed the marshals out. before the main group which caused a little confusion with many new riders thinking this was the main group, therefore splitting up the main group of riders. Marshals set of approximately 15 minutes before the main riding group to ensure all following riders knew where to turn. There was a small group that Unfortunately, as the ride got under way at 10.30 the rain started and it became very wet by the time we reached Allansford. However, as the day progressed it did lighten up for us to enjoy a delicious lunch at Timboon Golf Club. Our return trip to Warrnambool started in mild conditions but heavy rain hit quite a few of us just before reaching Warrnambool.
Saturday night dinner at the RSL, saw 72 members and guests arrive for a fun filled night. There were hundreds of dollars’ worth of goods donated by various organization around Warrnambool and district.
We had representatives from our two major sponsors come along and enjoy the fellowship and discussions on the Saturday ride. Keiron Keegan from MCM Industries was there to hand out cheques to 3 of our register rally entrants to the tune of $250 first prize, $150 second prize and $100 for third prize winner. Congratulations to these winners and thankyou to MCM for their generous sponsorship. Mr. Kyall Wragge was representing Total Tools who was another major sponsor of the rally. Total Tools has donated a $450 Milwaukee power drill and the raffle for this will be drawn out at our meeting on the 10th November.
Sunday morning was a gathering at the Civic Green once again in much better conditions. The sun was out which lifted the spirits of our riders and their support crews. The ride was lead by Ken Rowe with Bruce Brown overseeing the marshals. We toured through Grassmere, Woolsthorpe, Hawkesdale, with our lunchtime stop in Yambuk. Again the ‘Country’ ladies turned on another magnificent lunch, and those home made cakes and sweets were to die for. The presentation of all categories of bikes listed below were given out after lunch to those worthy recipients, congratulations to all winners.
